Almost every day we walk our dog along a path here in Santa Cruz known as “West Cliff.”  It’s a fabulous walking trail that allows you to not only look out at the always changing moods and colors of the coastal sky and horizon, but also down, on the waves and water patterns.  Every day it is different and every hour of every day it’s different.  And yes, we always try and be especially grateful because we DO feel like we are spoiled to get to enjoy these amazing views and the fresh ocean air.

So lately I’ve been enjoying putting some of that visual memory to use in painting coastal landscapes.  I loved the shadow created by the late afternoon sun on this one posted above.  It’s a little tight for me as a watercolor, but I do like the colors and contrasts.  This smaller one is done much more quickly and I feel like it’s a little more of what I’m aiming for.  It’s always SUCH a challenge to stay simple with watercolors!!!  Stay tuned…
