What in the world do these three words have in common??
They happen to capture three lovely impressions that came to my mind as I was looking through one of my art journals chronicling a past painting holiday to Tuscany.
So many happy memories washed over me as I turned the pages: watching the twinkling fireflies down by the river each evening at the Watermill where we were staying, the church bells echoing out over the hills each morning from the small church overlooking the village, and how could I forget the poignancy of strolling past an open window in the ancient, renaissance town of Lucca, (hometown of Puccini), and hearing an opera student practicing his scales?
These are just three among so many cherished memories and they don’t even begin to touch on the unique joys of traveling and painting with other like-minded creatives.
This year’s Painting Holiday to France is almost upon us… BUT we are opening up registration for next year’s painting holiday to (drum roll, please)… TUSCANY! Yesss!!– we are returning to a favorite venue again in May 2027 – the Watermill in Posara, Italy. Fireflies, bells and Puccini here we come!!
These trips are truly a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience beauty, history, different cultures, art, delicious food, wine and all while traveling together in a safe, fun, creative community. Painting together, with friends, plein air in the hills of Tuscany is waaaaayy different from painting at a workshop in the States where we all have a gazillion responsibilities before and after. Trust me on that one.
I don’t know who you are out there reading this but take a moment to dream. Maybe – just maybe - you’ll be joining me at twilight down by the river next year, watching fireflies, listening to the bells and talking about painting our memories of the day.
Maybe – just maybe - you’ll actually start taking the steps to make that dream come true! (PS: Don’t dream too long though. When registrations open, our trips regularly fill quickly).
